Once upon a
time, long ago, there was a big wonderful country – Bookland, where all the
books reflected in the mirror like people. In that country every book lived in prosperity and tried to accept different circumstances. There were special customs, sometimes pointless and funny. In the district of love stories the most
beautiful were those who always nodded their head in order to agree with friends. It was impossible to mistake them for anybody else. On the other hand, in the district of historical books there were very strict people, who always finalized all their plans. Even their housing was fully furnished and old-fashioned.
In the
Dictionary District, right at the Verb Street, there lived a very reputable
gentleman Longman S.B. He had a company, which was based on counting pages in every book. Everybody thought that he didn't have friends, because as a book he was worthless. He was
known as a man, who assured everybody that they were stupid. He was impatient and a little bossy,
that’s why speaking with him was a really severe situation. Even Scrappy, his small
dog-notebook, ran away from him, because it didn't want to occupy his territory.
He was inexplicably sad and rather lonely.
Only one eventful day changed his life.
Mr. Longman was walking in a very narrow street, while a recognition of somebody alive made him to stay at one place. Though he was an adult and was in a good shape, there was a noticeable fear on his face. When
he heard a strange whisper, he felt himself almost ready to cry out loud, as if it could finalize this boring story. But then a small man come out and he was very apologetic.
"I didn't mean to bother you", he said.
It was Mr. Elementarie, one of the oldest Dictionaries in the World, who exceled at the most ancient definitions. He was sitting on the earth and Longman felt sorry of him. He wasn't heartless at all - pages of this person probably were dark and old. This man was absorbing into darkness. And it was the origin of his new life.

“Pardon me…”
he started, but with an emotive voice Elementarie told him:
“There’s
nothing to be afraid of. Darkness isn’t bad, is it?” Longman thought that man
was crazy, but suddenly thousands of sparkles appeared from his fingers, shining and simplifying everything. Wondered, looked at Elementarie:
“I know that I have done many unforgivable things, but will you
go with me?”.
The old man’s
face looked absolutely amazed, but then he smiled in an undescribable way. What a worthwhile night!
